HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR TIME & ENERGY

As humans, our energy ebbs and flows throughout the day.  Most of us have fairly consistent patterns of that ebbing and flowing.  By monitoring our energy fluctuations, we can discover what they are and take advantage of them.

Assess Your Individual Energy Patterns

For example, you may notice that your physical energy is highest very early in the day, while your spouse may have a physical energy spike in the evening.  There is no right or wrong here.  No judgment. Everyone is different, but there is a better time to perform certain tasks based on when your energy peaks.  In this example, you may get better results if you do things like working out, running errands, and anything that requires your physical energy in the morning, while your spouse would be better suited to these types of activities later in the day.

Perhaps your mental energy is highest in the late morning.  That may be the best time to problem-solve, work on creative projects, or have brainstorming sessions with colleagues or friends. Relational issues with family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and/or employees are better addressed when your emotional energy is at its best, not when you’re exhausted or in a quiet, introspective frame of mind/energy.

Optimize Performing Your Tasks With Your Energy Flow

You can optimize tasks such as research, creative thinking, collaborating, managing meetings, and making business calls based on your creative, mental, social, and emotional energy.  We all have times when we are better at things like organizing or menial chores, and times when we are more suited to being completely in our heads, working with numbers or writing reports.  The key is to learn your patterns and match your routines with them to the best of your ability.  Time seems to pass so quickly.  Why not make the most of it?
