HOW BEING MINDFUL CAN HELP YOU SPOT AND MASTER YOUR LIFE-LESSONS

 I was stretching, the other day because I had done exactly what I tell my clients NOT to do, –over commit. I was so stressed about having done so that my back went out and life showed up by rendering my chiropractor at a conference all week.  How was I going to get through the next few days and what was I thinking?  Well, in truth, the problem was that I WASN’T thinking.  And since I am into this “life is happening for me, not to me” philosophy, I wondered, “how in the blazes is this for me?”

I turned on the television (to make stretching more palatable) and there was a rerun of an interview Oprah had done with Dr. Robin Smith, explaining how not tending to herself had almost cost her life.  “Okay,” I thought, “Universe, you’ve got my attention…”

I quickly realized that the lesson was very clear.  Make my “ME TIME” a priority, and create sufficient space in my schedule and on my calendar for those times when life not only shows up, but acts out.  At worst, I will have a little extra free time. Most importantly, I have to REMEMBER to do this.

I would have preferred the Universe send an email or text, but it comes how it comes and the important thing is I got the message.  At least I was able to muster up some gratitude for the reminder to practice what I preach to my clients, which is, “When you say “yes”to everything all you get is tired.”
